Wife of Allen Beaumont

Mrs. Beaumont, wife of Allen Beaumont, a very old resident of the Don, died on Friday evening and was interred in the local cemetery on Sunday. The deceased some time back met with an accident, falling and breaking one of her ribs, and she never recovered from the effects and shock to her system, gradually sinking away. She was well known in the district, and was related to many families at the Don.

Don

Another old identity of the district passed away early yesterday morning. Mr. Allen Beaumont had resided at Don for fully 50 years, and had attained the patriarchal age of 87. He leaves two sons and two daughters (the latter being Mesdames W. Archer and James Cole), and numerous grandchildren. The funeral leaves Mr. Cole’s residence at 2.45 p.m. to day for the Don cemetery.

Don

The funeral of the late Mr. Allen Beaumont was largely attended at the Don Cemetery yesterday afternoon, the Rev. C. Benson-Barnett conducting the religious ceremony. It was remarked as singular that the three last interments were all of persons aged 87, Mesdames Parker, Eastland and Mr. Beaumont all having lived in the district for half a century. The last named had put in an application for an old age pension, against the wishes of the family, who were only too willing to keep the aged pioneer for the remaining portion of his career.

Obituary

Late Mr. W. Beaumont Scottsdale

The funeral of the late Mr. Walter Beaumont, of Scottsdale, took place yesterday, interment being in the old Don cemetery. The last rites were conducted by Rev. H. A. Leicester, while Mr. J. A. Wills read the funeral service of the I.O.O.F., Manchester Unity, of which deceased had been a member for over half a century, joining when the Don lodge was functioning. The carriers were four nephews, Messrs. D. Beaumont, W. Cole, S. Steward and P. Bryan. The chief mourners were three sons, Messrs. Walter, Frank and Victor Beaumont, Mr. A. Haberle (son-in-law), and three sisters, Mesdames W. Irvine, C. Irvine and A. Haberle. Wreaths included those from the Penguin U.A.O.D., staff of Mr. W. J. Irvine (Scottsdale), Central Penguin Cricket Club, and the Scottsdale clubs. Mr. Beaumont was a native of Don, having been born there 76 years ago. He was a son of the late Mr. A. Beaumont, one of the Don pioneers. Deceased in his day saw Don at its best, when it was not uncommon for many small trading vessels to be in the river. Mr. Beaumont used to relate that he remembered 20 being there at the same time, when the timber and potato industries were active. Mr. Beaumont was the last surviving member of the original Don cricket team, which had an unbeaten record for many years. He was a prominent player, and carried his bat on numerous occasions. After residing at Don for many years he left seven years ago to live with a daughter at Scottsdale, and visited other members of his family in the North West at different periods. He leaves four sons, Messrs. Walter (Penguin), Patrick (N.S.W.) Frank and Victor (Railton), and three daughters, Mesdames W. J. Irvine (Scottsdale), C. L. Irvine (Devonport) and A. Haberle (Riana). A sister (Mrs. A. Archer, Don) and a brother Mr. A. Beaumont, Penguin, survive. His wife predeceased him over seven years ago. There are 15 grandchildren.
