The remains of one of the old identities of the Coast, Mr. George Barefoot, were interred at the Don Congregational Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. The deceased, who was 57 years of age, was employed about 40 years back at Stewart’s mill, on the banks of the Mersey, and when these works were closed down he was engaged in the timber trade at the Don. He was well known on the Coast, and was much respected.

NEWS ITEM
A painful accident happened to a young girl named Barfoot, residing with her parents at the Don on Monday.
She was sitting in front of a fire in the kitchen, when she fainted and fell headlong into the burning embers.
The sudden contact with the fire brought her quickly to consciousness and her piecing screams attracted the
attention of her mother, who was outside. She rushed in and dragged the girl out of the flames, but not before
she had been severely burned about the head and shoulders. Under the attendance of Dr. Payne, the unfortunate
girl is progressing favourably.
