OBITUARY

The Late Mrs. Geo Brumby

Another of the old coast residents passed away on Thursday last in the person of Mrs. Emily Brumby at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. A. E. Cullen Wilmot Road Forth. Deceased was in her 89th year and was predeceased by her husband, the late Mr. Geo. Brumby, by 7 years. She was born at Essex, England, on 10th December 1834, and came to Tasmania with her mother and several sisters landing at Launceston when she was 7 years of age. At the age of 24 she became the life partner of the late Mr. Geo. Brumby, and from that time her life was spent in the Cressy and Forth districts, and she was highly respected wherever she made her abode. It is about 32 years since she came to the Forth district. Her noble Christian character was evidenced in her life of devotedness to her Master and having been converted at the age of 13, it was said by those who knew her intimately that “she had never looked back.” The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church and in her young days had taken a prominent part in connection with that domination. Mrs. Brumby was thought much of by all who knew her, and by her death the coast loses another link with its early history. The remaining members of the family are: Mrs. E. Lee (Latrobe), Mrs. A.E. Cullen (Forth), Mrs. T. Wellard (Forth) and Messrs. L. and P. Brumby (Forth). The remains of the late Mrs. Brumby were laid to rest in the Forth Congregational Cemetery on Saturday afternoon.
