Last Sad Rites
The interment of the late Miss Bessie Collyer took place at the Bluff Cemetery yesterday morning, when there was a fairly large attendance of Salvation Army adherents and staff of the People’s Palace, of which the deceased lady was a member. The last sad rites were performed at the graveside by Ensign Bastian, of the Salvation Army, Devonport. Miss Collyer leaves a brother, who resides in Victoria, from whom a telegraphic message was received yesterday. Both her parents have pre-deceased her. The circumstances surrounding the death of Miss Collyer were tragic. Some weeks ago she came to Devonport for the purpose of assisting at the Peoples Palace, which was short-handed at the time on account of the epidemic, with the result that she herself contracted the disease, which proved fatal.
