Death of an Old Miner
The death took place yesterday of Mr. Eli Cook, at the age of 76 years. The deceased was born in Wales in 1829, and arrived in Tasmania in 1854 with his wife and two sons. Mr. Cook came out in the sailing vessel Chatham, under engagement to the Douglas Coal Company. He has been in the state for over 51 years, and lived at Don and Latrobe for the greater part of the time. Six years ago his wife died at Latrobe, since then he has resided with his eldest daughter, Mrs. Jacob Lehman, at Devonport. The deceased leaves a grown up family of four sons and five daughters, all of whom are married, and a large number of grandchildren in Tasmania and Victoria. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon, leaving his son-in-law’s residence, William Street, at 2 o’clock, for the Don Cemetery.

The funeral of Mr. S. Cook, who died suddenly on Tuesday morning at Leith, took place yesterday afternoon in the
Forth Beach cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Fielding officiated. The late Mr. Cook was 84 years of age and had resided at
Leith for the past fifty years, being the oldest resident of the place. He was much respected on account of his honest and upright character.

At the Forth Beach cemetery on Saturday the remains of the late Amanda Cook were laid to rest. Deceased, who never married was in her 86th year and was well known at Leith, where she resided for many years. She passed away at Hobart, where she lived for four years preceding her death. The funeral service was conducted by Mr. J. Goldsworthy, while the bearers were Messrs O. Reichardt, J and H Hering and C. Mason and the chief mourners were Capt W. F. Cook and Mrs. Cook.
