Obituary
Mr. Arthur Cummings
A link with the past was severed recently by the death of Mr. Arthur Cummings, of Leith, at the age of 81. He was a member of a family of pioneers who put Don on the map in the early days and started the large business undertaking known in the early days under the trade name of Cummings and Raymond, which finally was merged into the River Don Trading Co. When a young man the late Mr. Cummings was captured by the idea of a New Australia, the Paragnay project started by Mr. William Lane, and he joined Mr. Lane in the quest for the ideal community settlement, which had an ill-starred career. The late Mr. Arthur Cummings was a chemist, and he became physician to the new colony in the absence of medical men. On his return he was for many years a dispenser in Launceston. He lived at Leith for some 20 years. Interment took place on Monday in the old Don cemetery.
