Sickness if still rife in Devonport, some of which is undoubtedly due to the unsanitary condition of the drains in various parts of the town and as a result, possibly, of which two cases of diphtheria are reported, one ending fatally on Thursday. The victim in this instance was a boy 13 years of age, the son of Mr. J. Dolting, of Nicholls Street, West Devonport, the cause of death being certified by Dr. Owen as paralysis, following diphtheria. His sister is down with the same complaint and was yesterday reported to be seriously ill. During the hot weather householders should take every precaution in disposing of their slops and refuse water, as there can be no doubt half the trouble with unsanitary drains, which are always a standing menace in any community, arises from carelessness and neglect in this respect.
