Lodder and Captain Beecraft and quite a large number followed the remains to their last resting place, the Church of England Cemetery. The coffin was white, with silver mountings and was covered with wreaths and crosses of flowers. The burial service was read by the Rev. Humfrey Davis, the remains being first taken to the church and then to the graveyard. Great sympathy was expressed for Dr. Dundas in his sudden bereavement and residents of all parts of the district were present, it being the largest funeral known at the Forth for some time.

The North Wets Post 2nd January 1894

We regret to announce the demise of Dr. J. H. Dundas, who expired at his residence, on the Wilmot Road, Forth, early yesterday. The deceased gentleman was well known on the North West Coast and for many years practised his profession in the Don Forth and Leven districts. He was born in Tipperary, Ireland and at an early age entered the University at Dublin where he passed his medical examination. After practising for a short period, he was appointed a surgeon to the Imperial forces stationed in India. He occupied that position for about twenty-six years, during which time the regiment to which he was attached was placed on active service and of late years the deceased doctor charmed some of his friends by the various incidents he related of the troubles between the military forces and the natives. He retired from the Army on a pension about twenty years ago and came to Tasmania and settled in the Don district, where he quickly acquired a practise. In the early days he was the only medical man in the district and at times he had to travel a great distance to attend to patients. He afterwards took up a small farm on the Wilmot Road, at the Forth, where he built a commodious residence and where he resided until his demise. He has been in failing health for some months past, and was attended by Dr. Payne, who a short time back called in Dr. Browne, of Ulverstone and both these gentlemen attended the doctor until the last. The deceased’s many acts of kindness and charity in the pursuit of his profession will be remembered by many of the old residents and up to the time of his retirement, some four years back, his services were in great demand. His wife predeceased him about four years and the only daughter married a Mr. Scott, a landed proprietor in South Australia. Mrs. Scott was with the doctor during the last stages of his illness and he was also surrounded by numerous old friends. The deceased was about 74 years of age. His funeral will take place tomorrow.

The funeral of the late Dr. Dundas whose demise we chronicled in our last issue, took place yesterday afternoon and the respect in which the deceased gentleman had been held was amply testified by the large gathering at the function, at least 500 following the remains. The deceased was interred in the Forth cemetery.
