To the Editor of the Launceston Examiner
Sir – Seeing a paragraph in your issue of April 29th respecting cases of fever and deaths at the Don, I would say your informant has been misled, and the statement is not correct.
There has been a case or two of colonial fever, but the deaths of the two little girls, which singularly took place within a few hours of each other, and who were interred at the same time, were produced in one case by heart disease, and a medical man about two years since prescribed for her; and in the second case there is no doubt it was inflammation of the lungs. I am quite aware that there are exaggerated reports about disease here, the same as there were about the small-pox at Torquay, and persons cannot be too careful before they attempt to circulate the same through the columns of the press.
I trust your informant will be more guarded in his reports for the future, as it respects this district.
I remain,
Your Own Correspondent.
