About People
The sad intelligence was received in Devonport yesterday of the death of Mr. F. E. Haines, which took place at St. Kilda during Monday night. The deceased was a native of Melksham, in Wiltshire, and arrived in Hobart in 1856, being 21 years of age at the time. He carried on the business of baker and naval contractor, but some six years ago he removed to Devonport and conducted an auction mart in Stewart Street. Owing to failing health he was compelled to give this up at the end of last year, and a couple of months later he proceeded to the mainland for a change of climate, taking up his residence in St. Kilda. He was 58 years of age, and leaves a widow and family of two sons and two daughters, via., Messrs. Harry Haines (Devonport), Percy Haines (Melbourne), Mrs. P. R.
