DEATH OF MR. G. J. HAWKINS

The death occurred last evening of Mr. George Joseph Hawkins, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hawkins, of Best Street, Devonport, at the age of 28 years. He took ill only a fortnight ago. For several years he was employed at Mr. Holman’s bacon factory, and was generally esteemed and respected. Only twelve months ago Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins lost their second son, who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting in France.

Late in the afternoon the funeral of the late George Joseph Hawkins moved from the residence of the parents in Best Street to the Bluff Cemetery. There was a large attendance including the Warden (Cr. H. H. McFIe). The coffin-bearers were Messrs. J. And J. G. Warden, J. McCall, and F. O’Keefe. The chief mourners were the father, Mr. G. Hawkins, the brother, Mr. John Hawkins, and brother-in-law, Constable Peachey. The service was conducted according to rules of the Salvation Army by Capt. Dusting while testimony and prayer were offered by several army members, the service proving very touching. The Rev. J. Ebery offered prayer at the close. There were many beautiful wreaths place on the coffin.
