HENIGAN

Owen Henigan

Bluff Pioneer Cemetery Devonport

A man named Own Henigan, who earned a livelihood on the wharf at Devonport, died very suddenly at his residence, William Street, at an early hour yesterday morning. Henigan appeared in his usual health on Sunday, assisting in taking the lines from the union liner Taieri on her arrival from Sydney and attended service at the Catholic Church in the evening. He occupied the same bed as his son, the two being alone in the house. About 5 o’clock yesterday morning the lad was awakened by his father kicking violently and he asked him what was the matter. He got no answer, deceased suddenly becoming very quiet and on striking a light the lad was horrified to find that his father was dead. The circumstances have been reported to the coroner (Hon. J. H. McCall) and an inquest will be held at the Public Buildings at 10 o’clock this morning.
