Children of Frederick and Clara Holmes (Née Atkinson)
Don Pioneers
One of the oldest couples in the district took their departure for Melbourne by the steamer Oonah on Saturday, in the person of Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Holmes. In the early days, when the Don shipping trade was brisk the former was employed on the numerous sailing vessels visiting that port, and had previously traded to ports all over the world. His wife (née Miss Clara Atkinson) lived with her parents at the Don bridge 50 years ago, and has not been far from it since, removing with her husband to West Devonport about 20 years ago. In their declining years they are about to make their home with a married son at Clifton Hill (Vic.)
