ABOUT PEOPLE
In the death of Mr. David B. L. Jordan, which occurred at his residence, “Glenewen,” Kindred, yesterday morning, the district has lost another of its early settlers. Till the last few months he was one of its most prominent men. The deceased who was much respected for his honesty and steadfastedness of purpose, was only ill about a fortnight, and was 63 years of age at the time of his death. He arrived in Tasmania from England in 1865, first being located at Elizabeth Town, and a few years later, with his brothers Henry, George and John, he came to Kindred, then a wilderness of bush and scrub, and settled on the “Dumpledale” estate. Mr. Jordan was married in 1870 to a daughter of the late Mr. W. Riggs (another Kindred pioneer), who survives, and there is a family of twelve still living. Although never taking an active interest in politics, the deceased always lent ready aid to any movement having for its object the advancement of the district in which he had resided for so many years. He was a member of the I.O.R., the I.O.G.T., a Freemason, and served the ratepayers for a considerable period in the old Forth Road Trust, also up to a few years ago taking a prominent part in church affairs. The funeral takes place tomorrow, leaving the deceased’s late residence at one o’clock for the Forth Congregational Cemetery.

FORTH
Old Resident Passes.
Mrs. D. B. L. Jordan, whose death occurred at her residence on Friday last, was born in July 1853, at Hobart, on the arrival of an immigrant ship which brought her parents from the Old Country. The deceased lady had resided in the Forth and Kindred districts practically the whole of her life. When the deceased’s parents – The late Mr. and Mrs. Riggs- took up residence in Kindred six years after arrival, the whole of the district was in a primitive state, and they were the original pioneers of the district, which today boasts some of the best farms in the State. The late Mrs. Jordan was pre-deceased by her husband about 10 years ago and leaves a grown-up family of nine sons and a daughter. The sons are Messrs. Albert Jordan (Devonport), Lionel, Benjamin and Henry (Forth), Oakley (Riana), Clifford and Ledge (Kindred), Sidney and Claude (Yolla). The daughter is Miss A. Jordan, who resided with her mother at Forth. Messrs. Henry and Charles Riggs, of Burnie and Forth respectively, are brothers of the deceased lady, and Mrs. W. Polden, of Kindred, is a sister. The funeral of the late Mrs. Jordan took place in the Congregational Cemetery (Forth) on Sunday afternoon, when there was a large following of friends and relatives. The chief mourners were eight sons, five grandsons, and the two brothers of the deceased. Rev. H. A. Leicester, of Devonport, conducted the service at the graveside.
