Death has just claimed a very old and esteemed resident of the North West Coast in the person of Mrs. Madden, of Ulverstone, who passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, after a long illness. The deceased lady and her husband (whom she survived for several years) where the first to open a hotel on the west side of the Mersey, now know as West Devonport, afterwards occupying a farm in the vicinity of Norfolk Creek, between the Don and Forth and finally removed to Ulverstone, where Mr. Madden died and where the deceased lady has since lived a retired life with her unmarried son and daughter. Mrs. Madden was of a kindly and genial disposition and was noted for her unostentatious but genuine act of charity.
