MASTERMAN – The funeral of the late Robert Masterman will leave his son’s residence, Esplanade, Devonport, at 2.30 this day, for the Bluff Cemetery. Friends please accept this intimation

MR. ROBERT MASTERMAN passed away at his son’s residence, Devonport, on Saturday, at the age of 77 years. The late Mr. Masterman came to the Coast many years go and was engaged in the building trade, but for some years had lived retired, having gained a competency. He was a highly respected citizen, though he did not figure much in the public eye. His wife died some nine years ago. He leaves one son, Mr. Robert Masterman and six grandchildren. One son, Clare, predeceased him. Of late his health had been failing and the end was not unexpected. The late Mr. Masterman arrived from England with his parents over 60 years ago, landing at Launceston. He learned the trade of a builder and took up residence at Latrobe in 1870 he had a hand in the erection of many of the more important places in Latrobe. Later he returned to Launceston, where he carried on his trade of a builder and also acted as foreman of works in the Launceston sewerage scheme. He next went to West Australia and while there acted as foreman of works for the Perth museum and art gallery. He had been for over 30 years a resident of Devonport, where he also continued as a builder. His last job in the town was to superintend the erection of the Bank of Australasia, as foreman of works. He was a man of sterling character and soul of honour and was highly respected. The funeral will take place this afternoon the place of interment being the Bluff Cemetery.
