Maggie McHugh
On Tuesday the mortal remains of Miss Maggie McHugh were laid in their last resting place in the Forth Roman Catholic Cemetery. The cortege was large and widely representative, mourners following on foot, in vehicle and on horse. The coffin of blue and silver was carried in an open carriage and followed immediately by about a dozen young “Children of Mary” in their blue gowns and white veils. At the rise of the hill the procession halted and the coffin was borne in relays on the shoulders of loving friends and relations to the church, where the usual short service for the dead was delivered by the Rev. Father O’Riley. Then to the grave, where the last sad rite was administered. It is to be sincerely hoped that his is the last severe trial this bereaved and devoted family is to suffer for a time. It is but a fortnight or so since we related the sad circumstances of the death of the poor lady’s brother. That was followed by another deplorable calamity in the shape of fire. A stack of hay and straw, a large stable and valuable harness were totally consumed, the dwelling being saved by the most constant perseverance on the part of kind neighbors
