Another prominent resident of the Devon district has passed away in the person of Mr. G. B. Moon, who died at midday yesterday. He had been breaking up for some time, so that his death, which resulted from pneumonia, was not altogether unexpected, but it was nevertheless a shock to friends at a distance. His sight was also seriously affected. Over 20 years ago deceased was one of the partners in the River Don Trading Co. at Don, practically severing his connection when its head office was removed to Devonport, and he then devoted his attention to agriculture at Barrington, and mining. He was a justice of the peace for the Mersey district and for a term was chairman of the Don Road Trust. He came to reside at Forth a few years ago, and leaves a widow with three sons and three daughters. His funeral is arranged to leave his residence at 2.30 p.m. to day, arriving an hour later at the Don Cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. C. H. Moon, Latrobe

Mrs. Christina Henderson Moon, relict of the late Mr. G. B. Moon, passed away at her residence, Torquay Road, Latrobe, on Friday night.
The late Mrs. Moon will be remembered by surviving residents of the early Don settlement as one who played a very important part in the social life of the little community when the Don River was one of the chief ports and trading centres on the North West. She arrived there with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James Henderson Henry, 66 years ago, at the age of 14. Even at that age she was an accomplished pianist, and her services in that capacity were eagerly sought and freely given. She was, in fact, the life and soul of many happy gatherings at the old settlement.
Marrying, in 1883, the late Mr. George Brown Moon, a director of the River Don Trading Company, the late Mrs. Moon continued to reside at Don until 1889. With her husband she then went to live at Forth, and in 1908, at Latrobe.
Intensely patriotic the late Mrs. Moon took a very keen interest in the affairs of the Victoria League. She was recognized as one of the most active members in the State, and was president of the Devonport branch for over 20 years, being created a life member on her retirement. During the war she was an enthusiastic supporter of all patriotic movements, particularly the Red Cross Society, being treasurer of the Devonport branch until after the end of the war.
Two sons predeceased her. The surviving members of the family are Messrs. W. A. Moon - Farmer - Latrobe and G. E. H. Moon - Solicitor a member of the legal firm of Messrs. J. H. Henry and Moon, of Devonport; and three daughters, the Misses Tina, Nancy and Elsie.
The funeral will take place at 2.30 p.m. to day, the place of interment being the old Don Cemetery

A lad named Frederick Moon, son of Mr. G. B. Moon, of the Don, died rather suddenly at his parents’ residence on Saturday. The deceased had been ailing for some time from diabetes, and during the last few hours of his illness sank very rapidly. The deceased, who was nearly nine years of age, was a bright, intelligent little fellow, and was much liked. Sincere sympathy has been expressed for the parents in their sad bereavement.

About People

The death occurred at his mother’s residence, “Kedlock,” Ronald Street, Devonport, yesterday, of Mr. James Moon, at the early age of 28 years. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. G. B. Moon, of Don, and had been ailing for some time from diabetes. The deceased was for a number of years connected with the firm of York, Schmidt, and Co., Zeehan, but two years ago he severed his connection with them, and acquired an orchard property on the Moriarty road for health reasons, but the change did not prove beneficial. The deceased was about the town a fortnight ago, but he gradually became worse and had to take to his bed. He was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends on account of his unassuming manner, and much sympathy is felt for the relatives. The funeral will take place in the Don cemetery to-morrow, leaving his late residence at 11 a.m.
