The cortege included many representative residents. The pallbearers were Messrs. G. E. Hays, A. Gardiner, W. Smith and the Hon H. A. Nichols, M.L.C. The carriers were Messrs. F. McCarthy Clerke, Thos. Scott, G. Wellard and D. L. Whitchurch, all are connected with the Lodge of Peace, Forth, of which the deceased was a member. By reason of the unsettled weather the greater part of the burial service was conducted at the house in Gunn Street by the Rev. W. H. Hodge, which proved a wise proceeding, as there was quite a shower at the graveside.

Mrs. James Naylor, one of the oldest settlers in the vicinity of Devonport, passed quietly away on Thursday afternoon. She arrived at the Mersey with her husband, from England, in 1854 and settled in this neighborhood in 1855, so she saw the dense bush develop into a thriving and promising town, as Mr. Naylor cleared the first acre of land here, with the exception of the small area that was then opened at Appledore. The deceased lady has loved an exemplary life, intensely devoted to her husband. She leaves no family, but a deeply sorrowing husband and a few life-long friends to mourn her loss. Her funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon.
