Thomas Polden

Kindred Methodist Cemetery

Died 25th Feb 1895
Age 76 years
A farmer named Henry Polden died somewhat suddenly at Spalford about noon on Tuesday. The deceased had been complaining for some days of severe pains in his chest. He retired at 11 o'clock on Monday night and early next morning a Mr. Crawford, who was with him, decided to call in medical assistance. He rode to Ulverstone, leaving his sister with the invalid, but before Dr Sprott arrived life was extinct. As the doctor declined to give a certificate as to the cause of death, the deceased not having been attended by any medical man, the police reported the matter to the coroner and an inquest was held yesterday afternoon.

An inquest was held at Spalford on Wednesday on the body of Henry B Polden, who died on the previous day under circumstances detailed in our Thursday's issue. Mr. T. Collett was Coroner and the jury (of whom Mr. G. Crawford was foreman), after hearing the evidence of D. G. Sprott and two or three other witnesses rendered a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony, which was that death resulted from inflammation of the right lung

IN MEMORIAM

POLDEN - In fond and loving remembrance of my dear father, Thomas Polden, who departed this life February 25, 1895, at Kindred.

It is just six years ago to-day
Since my father dear was called away
The thoughts still linger round my heart,
Oh, it was sad for me that we should part.
But we know 'twas not anger
But in God's eternal love,
That from earth he called thee, our father,
To the courts of Heaven above.

Inserted by his loving daughter, Emily A Russell, Kindred.
