Death of Mrs. D. Robson

A double bereavement has befell Mr. David Robson, a well known resident of the district. Only last week his eldest brother, Mr. John Robson, of West Pine, passed away. On Sunday night the spirit of his wife took flight. Deceased had been ailing for some time and the death of her brother-in-law seemed to have an effect upon her from which she never rallied. Mrs. Robson was a sister to Mr. R. Montgomery, of Don, and leaves no family. The funeral will take place at the Don cemetery to-morrow afternoon, leaving the residence, Alpine Cottage, Leith, at 1 p.m.

The Advocate 18th February 1908

The death is recorded of Mrs. Robson, wife of Mr. David Robson, of Leith. The sad event was not unexpected, and occurred late on Sunday night. The cause of death was dropsy. The late Mrs. Robson, who was a native of Scotland, came out at an early age, and has lived in the vicinity of the Forth for over fifty years, and was married in the little township. The deceased was of a very kindly and hospitable nature, and many a weary traveller was regaled with a cup of tea in her home. The funeral leaves the deceased’s late residence, Leith Hill, at 1 p.m. today, the place of interment being the Don cemetery.

Old Resident’s Death

The death of Mr. David Robson means the loss of a well-known identity. The deceased lived for many years at Leith, and was a member of the Oddfellows’ Lodge at Forth, as well as of the Masonic fraternity. He was also a foundation member of the Presbyterian Church at Forth when it was opened many years ago in the Oddfellows’ Hall in that town. Among the relatives who survive him are Mr. Gideon Robson, of Sheffield (brother), and Mesdames E. Poulter and P. Collins, of Devonport (sisters). His wife predeceased him many years ago. He was a patriotic Scotchman, and a staunch admirer of Scotland’s great poet, Robert Burns. When he was in the humour it required very little inducement for him to recite at length verse after verse of Burns’ poems. He had reached the good old age of 85 when the call came.
