OBITUARY

Many of our readers will be sorry to hear of the death of Captain Sage, of the Forth, who expired yesterday at the Leven. The gallant captain's face will be sadly missed around the Forth, where he was general favorite with all who knew him. He was a very liberal man and the help given from his pocket for religious and charitable objects has been exceedingly large

Captain Sage was attached to the Indian Army. He spent much time in Training the youths of the district in the Volunteer Militia. He was a social light, being the only settler with a tennis court. He was a church warden and on Sundays drove in his waggonette to the church service, collecting members of the congregation en route. Extract from "Forefathers of the Hamlet"
