The Advocate 12th August 1919

The death took place yesterday at his residence, Fenton Street, Devonport, of Mr. John Sheean, at the age of 58 years. The deceased was a native of Devonport, but for many years was a farmer at Railton, where, in addition to carrying on farming operations, he acted as produce buyer for a Devonport firm and was a familiar figure at the Railton railway station. Several months since he decided to retire owing to failing health and resides in Devonport. He was a victim to diabetes and the end was not unexpected. He leaves a widow and a grown up family of four, three daughters and a son. The son, Mr. C. Sheean, lives in Victoria and was on his way home to see his father, but owing to the quarantine restrictions and the shipping trouble his return has been delayed and he is now at Portsea awaiting a vessel for Devonport. One of the daughters, Mrs. Simpson, resides at Railton; another, Mrs. Houston at Wonthaggi and a third Miss V Sheean is unmarried.

Death of Mr. Sheean

Sincere expressions of regret were heard when word came to hand that another longtime resident of Railton, Mr. J. D. Sheean, passed away at his home at Devonport. Deceased had for many years been a prominent produce merchant and was widely known and highly respected. It is only a few months back that Mr. Sheean retired from business and settled at Devonport to enjoy a well-earned rest. His end at the age of 58 comes as a great shock to his large circle of friends. Mr. Sheean leaves a wife and grown up family to mourn their loss.
