MEMORIAM
WARD – In loving memory of my dear husband, Richard Ward, who departed this life 11th August 1905, at Hamilton Road, Don.
Love never dies, although the years
Have slowly passed away,
We think of you, and speak of you.
And miss you every day.
And yet we could not wish you back,
To wear out weary years,
The look of peace on your pale face,
Upholds us in our tears
Inserted by his loving family

The death of one of the pioneers of the Don occurred yesterday morning when Mrs. Charlotte Ward, relict of the late Richard Ward, passed away at the advanced age of 80 years. Mrs. Ward was a native of Harlen, Norfolk, England and arrived in Tasmania in the Southern Eagle 59 years ago, and has resided in the Don district ever since. The deceased had a fall seven months ago, from the effects of which she never recovered. She was of a most kind and cheerful disposition, and one of the best neighbors in time of trouble or sickness. The deceased leaves two married daughters, viz., Mrs. W. Davey, of Devonport and Mrs. F. Snare, of Forth, besides 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place at the Don cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.

The large and representative attendance at the funeral of the late Mrs. George Ward yesterday afternoon gave ample evidence of the respect and esteem in which her family are held. Several district pioneers were present as well as people from Barrington, practically the whole of Norfolk Creek (where the deceased lived all her life), Don, Forth, Devonport, Melrose, and Spreyton. The cortege arrived at the Don Congregational cemetery at about 3.30 p.m., and the burial service was read by the Rev. R. Powell. The chief mourners were the grandsons of the deceased. The coffin was carried by the four eldest grandsons – F. Ward, W. Hepburn, F. Davey, and l. Snare. The pallbearers were G. Page, R. Gibson, G. Parker and W. Archer.
Amongst those present at the funeral of the late Mrs. Ward yesterday was Mr. Isaac Brett, one of the earliest settlers at North Motton. He came out in the same ship as the late Mrs. Ward, and belonged to the same county in England. Mr. Brett, although in the eighties, is still hale and hearty.
