DEATH
WILLIAMS – On May 23, at her residence, George Street, West Devonport, Harriet, wife of the late George Williams, aged 80 years.
The North West Post 25th May 1897
An old and respected colonist in the person of Mrs. Harriet Williams, relict of the late Mr. George Williams, passed peacefully away at her residence, George Street, West Devonport, at an early hour on Sunday morning. The deceased, who was 80 years of age, was a daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Quinn. Her father arrived at Sydney with 73rd Regiment of Highlanders, with which he was connected, in 1809 and five years later was married at Government House to the eldest daughter of Dr. Luttrell, Governor Macquarie giving the bride away and presenting the young couple with an estate in this Colony, once known as Kerry Lodge, but now Strathroy, on which Mr. and Mrs. Quinn took up their residence in 1818. Mrs. Williams’ late husband was a native of Sydney and came to this Colony in 1822 when 9 years of age. The family settled in Launceston and twenty years later Mr. Williams married the deceased. In the early forties Mr. and Mrs. Williams, with their young family, took up their residence at Burgess, Port Sorell, where Mr. Williams had built a commodious home and afterwards opened an hotel. Mr. Williams being of an enterprising nature and possessed of considerable mechanical talents, built some sailing craft, among them being the schooner Harriet. The settlements at Latrobe and the Mersey having diverted the trade from Port Sorell, the little township became almost deserted and some years later Mr. Williams and his family removed to the Mersey, at which place he died some five years back. The deceased, who was held in high esteem for her gentle nature and charitable disposition, leaves a family of eleven children, all of whom, we believe are married.

DEATH
WILLIAMS – At his residence, Fenton Street, West Devonport, on May 19, George Pyrmont Williams, aged 79.
The North West Post 24 May 1892
Considerable regret was expressed at the Mersey yesterday when it became known that Mr. George Williams had expired on the previous evening. The deceased, who was an old identity, was born at Pyrmont, Sydney in 1813 and arrived in Launceston in 1822. Shortly afterwards he settled at Port Sorell and justly claimed to be the pioneer of that district. For some years her prospered fairly well, but adversity over took him and after vainly struggling against it, he finally left and settled at West Devonport. The deceased built several sailing vessels, among them being the Harriet and Martha Levinia and was known in the early fifties a first class shipbuilder. The deceased leaves a wife and large family, mostly all grown up and married.
The funeral of the late Mr. George P. Williams, whose death we chronicled in our last issue, took place on Sunday afternoon, when a large number of mourners followed the remains to their last resting place, the Bluff Cemetery. The Rev. S. H. Hughes conducted the funeral service and around the grave were a number of the old residents of the town, who had known the deceased in the early days.

SUDDEN DEATH AT DEVONPORT
A very sudden death occurred at Devonport about six o’clock last night, when an old resident named John Williams fell down on his premises in Fenton Street with the words “I am dying; send for my sister.” Shortly afterwards he expired.
He was about sixty years of age and leaves a wife and four children. Death is supposed to have been due to heart disease.
An inquest, it is expected, will be held today.
The Advocate 20th December 1901
THE LATE SUDDEN DEATH
It has been decided to hold an inquest at the Court House at 10.30 today on the body of John Williams, who died suddenly at his residence on Thursday. It will be conducted by Mr. P. C. Maxwell (coroner). The death occasioned much surprise and regret, as deceased had lived in the district since boyhood and was one of the many sons of the late George Williams. His widow is a daughter of Mr. Quinn who kept the Formby Hotel in the “good old days” and a brother lives at Port Sorell.
The Advocate 21st December 1901
THE DEATH OF JOHN WILLIAMS
A coroner’s inquest touching the death of John Williams was held at the Court House, Devonport, on Saturday morning, before Mr. P. C. Maxwell Coroner and the following jury: Messrs. H. Brown (foreman) S. S. Field, C. Harrison, H. McCall, J. Littlejohn, P. A. Libert, D. Loane. Superintendent W. Scott conducted the inquiry.
Ella Williams, daughter of the deceased, deposed her father often complained of illness. He was working in the garden on Thursday afternoon; coming inside he tried to reach the sofa, but fell on the floor and did not speak again. He was 58 years of age. He had been subject to fainting fits for the last three months.
Dr. J. Smith deposed to having been called to the house of John Williams, whom he found lying on the floor on his back; life was extinct. He attributed death to heart disease.
The jury without retiring returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony.
The funeral of the deceased took place early on Saturday afternoon at the Bluff Cemetery, West Devonport, when a representative body of mourners attended, the chief being the brothers of the deceased and of Mrs. Williams. The religious service was conducted by the Rev. G. J. McKay.
