Mrs. E. Yates, Forth.
Mrs. Elizabeth Yates died at her son’s residence, Forth, on Wednesday, at the age of 81 years. She had been a highly respected resident of Forth for 32 years, having gone there from Westbury, where she was born. Her husband predeceased her four and a half years ago. She is survived by her son, Mr. S. L. Yates, Forth, also Messrs. Reginald (Hobart), and Robert Atkinson (New Zealand), and Mrs. V. Abbott (Melbourne), children of a former marriage. A short service was read at the house, the cortege moving to the Congregational Cemetery, where the burial service was read by Mr. John K. Storey. The chief mourners were Messrs. S. L. Yates and R. Atkinson (sons), T. Atkinson (grandson), W. Lowe (brother), E. Wilkins, E. Rudd and E. Lowe (nephews), and G. Rudd (brother-in-law). The casket was carried by Messrs. E. Wilkins and E. Rudd (nephews), J. Kenny and H. Stevenson. The pallbearers were Messrs. R. Stevenson, A. E. Pearce, E. Onions and E. Perry. Among the floral tributes were wreaths from the Forth Congregational Church, committee of the Forth Town Hall, staff of Furner’s Hotel, (Ulverstone), Forth Parents and Friends’ Association and State School Children, and Red Cross Society (Forth Branch).Headstone

The death occurred at the Meercroft Hospital Devonport last night of Mr. Samuel Yates, an old resident of Forth. The late Mr. Yates was born at Bishopsbourne and went to Forth 26 years ago. He carried on farming pursuits there, and retired nine years ago. He enjoyed good health until recently. He became ill on Wednesday morning, and was taken to the Meercroft Hospital, where he died last evening. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Yates, son Mr. S. L. Yates (Forth), step-daughter Mrs. Abbott (Melbourne), and step-sons, Messrs Robert Atkinson (Hobart) and Reg Atkinson (New Zealand). The funeral will take place tomorrow at Forth.Late Mr. S. The funeral of the late Mr. Samuel Yates, who died in the Meercroft Hospital last Thursday evening took place in the Congregational Cemetery Forth, on Saturday afternoon, and was very largely attended. Mr. J. Storey (Devonport) conducted the funeral service. The late Mr. Yates was born at Oaks 82 years ago, and had been a very highly-respected resident of the Forth district for the past 26 years. He followed farming pursuits and also conducted a carrier’s business, but retired about 10 years ago. Mrs. Yates survives him. The chief mourners were Messrs. S. Yates (son), R. Atkinson (stepson), G. Atkinson (grandson), G. Rudd (brother-in-law), E. Wilkins, E. Rudd and D. Hay (nephews). The carriers were Messrs. H. Stephenson, A. Pearce, G. Atkinson and L. Ruffles. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. Leary, R. Denney, C. T. Wellard and P. Brumby. Among a large number of wreaths were those from the staff and employees of the Shell Co. (Ulverstone), Tyres Proprietary (Launceston) and the Congregational Church (Forth).
